Part 2: The Most Powerful Ways to Heal Birth Trauma for Mothers, Babies, and Fathers with Susan Ross

SHOW NOTES: Episode 29

This episode is part 2 of last week’s episode so be sure to tune in to part 1 before diving into this one!

Susan and I continue our discussion on the impact of trauma, specifically on pregnancy loss and termination. We dive into the detrimental effects of labeling and explore the potential of hypnotherapy in the healing process.

One of the key points we discussed is that trauma is not something that women have to live with constantly in their day-to-day lives. Trauma, including pregnancy loss and termination, can indeed lead to PTSD in women. It's a startling fact that 1 in 6 women who have experienced loss develop PTSD. It’s important to remember that having a diagnosis of PTSD or any other mental health condition does not mean that women have to carry that label for the rest of their lives.

We expressed our concern about the negative impact of labeling and how it can affect a person's physical, emotional, mental, and relational well-being. Being given a label can become a burden and affect your ability to function in the world. We want you to see the label as a challenge and find ways to remove it rather than accepting it as a permanent part of your identity.

We also discussed the power of the mind-body connection and how thoughts and beliefs can influence physical and cellular changes in the body. Healing trauma and fear is so important in order to maintain a positive attitude and focus on the present moment, especially during pregnancy, and pregnancy after loss.

Susan explains the crucial role of a doula in providing support during pregnancy and childbirth, as well as the significance of treating each pregnancy as a unique experience, especially after a loss. We also talk about the need for improved support and communication for women during pregnancy, particularly those who have experienced loss.

We stressed the significance of acknowledging and processing trauma, even if it is not recognized by medical professionals or those around them. Make sure that you are prioritizing your own healing and seeking support to navigate through the emotional impact of pregnancy loss.
