Part 1: Healing Trauma - Unleashing the Power of the Nervous System with Sarah Rollins

SHOW NOTES: Episode 33

Hello beautiful souls! Welcome back to another episode! As an angel mom, rainbow mom, pregnancy loss practitioner, and trauma-informed coach, I've experienced firsthand the pain and trauma of pregnancy loss. Today, I want to share with you a profound conversation I had with Sarah Rollins, a licensed clinical social worker and somatic experiencing practitioner. This is part one of a two-part series on trauma and pregnancy loss.

I have Sarah Rollins, a licensed clinical social worker and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, on today. We are diving into the topic of healing from the trauma associated with pregnancy loss. She shares more about somatic therapy and her own journey with trauma.

We talk more about the dismissive societal attitude towards pregnancy loss, the lack of empathy from others, and how others sometimes place blame on those who have experienced this trauma. Sarah also shares more about the concept of overriding and how it affects our ability to listen to our bodies. She explains that from a young age, we are taught to override our natural impulses in order to conform to societal expectations. This can lead to dissociation, where our bodies no longer send signals to our minds because they are not being listened to.

Sarah gives examples of how overriding can manifest, such as ignoring the urge to eat or suppressing the need to go to the bathroom. In somatic work, the goal is to help individuals come back into relationship with their body's cues. This can be challenging, as many people have lost touch with their body's signals.

Stay tuned for the second part of this series where we will dive deeper into the topic of trauma and pregnancy loss. Remember, it's okay to seek help and support. You are not alone in this journey.
