How Can Somatic Movement Help Recalibrate Your Nervous System After Pregnancy Loss? With Jordana Toback

SHOW NOTES: Episode 31

How can somatic movement help recalibrate your nervous system after pregnancy loss? On today’s episode, I have Jordana Toback on. Jordana is a somatic movement coach. She works with people to recalibrate their nervous systems so they can create safety and containment in their bodies. We discuss the importance of the nervous system in fertility and pregnancy, and how movement can help release emotional blocks. Jordana shares her personal journey of pregnancy loss and how it led her to her current work.

We discussed the significance of the ventral vagal state and how it can vary for each individual. Both Jordana and I emphasize the need for somatic work and deep body movement to truly change patterns and address the emotional and unconscious aspects of the nervous system.

Jordana and I dove into the concept of dissociation and its connection to the nervous system. She explained that dissociation is one of the earliest defense mechanisms that develop in humans. This defense mechanism kicks in when there is no way to fight or flight from a threat. Jordana believes that our understanding of the nervous system and ancestral trauma is still in its early stages.

We also discussed the idea of inner children and how they are connected to our nervous system. Jordana explained that the things that scared our inner child are the same things that scare us as adults. When we are in a state of nervous system defense, we cannot simply talk ourselves out of it. Instead, we need to move the energy through our bodies and let our bodies know that we are there for them. This can be done through somatic movement and bringing the heart rate up to a level where it can come back down and rest.

Our experiences with pregnancy loss have transformed our perspectives and priorities in life. I also emphasized the importance of having a support team consisting of professionals from various fields. Check out the link to my Pregnancy Loss Practitioner Certification below for more support.
