Ectopic Pregnancy & the Signs to Look For, Missed Miscarriage, and Pregnancy After Loss: Dr. Shafiqah Nasir’s Story

SHOW NOTES: Episode 24

Dr. Shafiqah Nasir, a UK-based medical doctor and founder of Perinatal Empowerment, is on the What I Wish I Knew After Pregnancy Loss Podcast today to share her story. She shares about her ectopic pregnancy and the signs to look for, her missed miscarriages, and navigating pregnancy after loss.

Dr. Shafiqah’s first pregnancy was ectopic, a terrifying experience that led to significant blood loss and required surgery. Despite being a medical doctor, she was not immune to the mental health challenges that followed her pregnancy losses. She battled anxiety and depression throughout her pregnancy and even after her baby was born.

Her story is a reminder that mental health struggles do not discriminate. Despite her difficulties, she is in a better place and is on a mission to ensure that other women do not suffer in silence. She is determined to raise awareness about the unique challenges faced during pregnancy and the postpartum period, especially for first-time mums who may be experiencing anxiety or have a history of mental health concerns or pregnancy losses.

Dr. Shafiqah shares the importance of seeking help and allowing yourself to grieve and recover. She discusses the challenges of navigating pregnancy after loss and the lack of understanding from others at times.
