Part 1: Navigating Common Myths of TFMR with Sabrina Fletcher

SHOW NOTES: Episode 41

On today’s episode, I am speaking with Sabrina Fletcher, a Termination for Medical Reasons (TFMR) doula. She opens up about the loss of her second baby through a medically necessary termination. Sabrina shares about the isolation that she felt and the absence of support during her time of loss, which inspired her to build a community for others experiencing the same. We dive into the misconceptions about TFMR and share how these choices are rooted in love. In part 1, she shares 2 of the 5 common myths.

Common Myths about TFMR:

  1. “It was a choice.”

Sabrina shares that it is not a choice that you WANT to make, but rather something that is forced upon you. You are often pushed into a timeframe that is very limited and you are still processing the information that has been given to you about your baby. You still go through the emotional process of grief.

2. “We don’t love our babies.”

That couldn’t be farther from the truth. There is so much that is factored into the decisions that we often have to make with TFMR and they are rooted in love. These pregnancies are WANTED pregnancies. We love our babies.

I hope today’s episode expressed the critical need for support and understanding.  I hope you tune in next week for part 2 to hear the other myths and misconceptions!
