EP149: PART TWO: "We're there too" — What pregnancy loss really looks like for fathers - Guest Nathan Wieser
This conversation doesn't have to end when the episode does.
The Reproductive Loss Leaders Room is where it keeps going — replays, live mentorship, and a room of practitioners across every discipline, all working out what this means for their own piece of care. Not another place where pregnancy loss is one topic among many. Here, it's the whole conversation.

In Part 1, Nathan Wiser shared the unimaginable — five pregnancies, four losses, a daughter who didn't come home, and a son born fighting for his life at 26 weeks.
Today, In Part 2, we pick up in the NICU — and what unfolds is one of the most honest conversations I've had on this podcast about what it actually takes to survive grief as a man.
Nathan opens up about hitting rock bottom, the self-destruction that followed, and the moments he thought about swimming out into the ocean and not coming back. He talks about what kept him here — his dogs forcing him off the couch, a handful of lifelong friends, a wife who held space even when she didn't understand, and a crash course in facing hospitals head-on with Otto fighting beside him.
After 121 days in the NICU, they brought their son home. And then a wildfire took everything they'd built.
Still, they stayed.
This episode is for every father who has sat in a dark hallway, alone, carrying something no one asked him about. And for every partner who has wondered what their person is holding that they haven't said out loud.
In this episode we cover:
- What the NICU journey really looked like — the code blues, the surgeries, the miracle
- How Nathan coped (honestly — including the ways he wouldn't recommend)
- Why fathers are often invisible in pregnancy loss support
- The communication that kept Nathan and Lucy's marriage intact
- What Nathan would say to any man deep in the pit right now
- Otto's first year, the wildfire, and life on the other side
- Nathan's book We Did It — and why he wrote it
